Zanon for the High-Luminosity LHC project at CERN, in collaboration with Fermilab National Laboratory, is manufacturing 12 RFD CRAB cavities which are very complex due to the particular geometry and the very strict tolerances and high demanding requirements.
This week, at Zanon, we have successfully completed the integration in the titanium helium vessel of the first RFD CRAB cavity. This activity is very challenging because more than 100 screws have to be fixed in our Cleanroom, while the TIG welding is done in a dedicated new glove box. The operation on the first cavity was concluded with no frequency shift.
This is an important milestone and now that all the processes are proven and fully qualified, we are ready to complete the other cavities!
